Astrocartography 101: Find A Place Where You Belong

Have you ever wondered why some places feel more like home than others, even the ones where you grew up?

External factors such as culture, people, language matter. But have you ever felt aligned with a place, even when the physical circumstances were far from ideal? I most certainly have and the search for identifying this feeling led me to astrocartography.

If you too share the same sentiment and want to gain more insight into this topic, I would be happy to introduce you to this discipline. I can only hope that by the end of this blog post, you will have a newfound understanding of what astrocartography entails and how it can impact your relocation decisions.

So without further ado, let’s get started!

What Is Astrocartography?

Astrocartography, also known as relocation astrology, is a discipline that utilizes your birth chart information and maps it against a world map. When you receive an astro map, you essentially see a snapshot of where all the planets were at the time of your birth and how that data relates to where you might feel most at home in the world.

How To Make a Free Astrocartography Map?

There are a few different websites that allow you to make a free map. I like to use Astro Seek. There, you can find plenty of astrology-related tools, but in this case, you will need to access their astro map

All you have to do is input your birth information, including exact year, date, and time, as well as your birthplace. Once you do, you will be given a map similar to this:

How To Read an Astrocartography Map?

Let’s first go through some of the elements of an astro map. Towards the end, I will give you a tip on how to get the exact information you want from your map without any extra hassle.

The most important elements of the map are the 10 planets, their 4 angles, and the three objects.

The 10 planets are essentially the main characters of your chart, and each of them carries a significant energy. Here’s a useful breakdown:

  • ☉ Sun  = Identity, vitality
  • ☽ Moon = Emotions, home
  • ☿ Mercury = Communication, thinking
  • ♀ Venus = Love, beauty
  • ♂ Mars = Action, drive
  • ♃ Jupiter = Growth, abundance
  • ♄ Saturn = Discipline, structure
  • ♅ Uranus = Change, rebellion
  • ♆ Neptune = Spirituality, illusion
  • ♇ Pluto = Power, transformation

To know which area of your life will be strongly illuminated by the energy of the planet, you need to look at the angles. There are 4 different angles:

  • AC (Ascendant) = Self-image, physical energy
  • DC (Descendant) = Relationships, partnerships
  • MC (Midheaven) = Career/public life
  • IC (Imum Coeli) = Roots, inner self

When it comes to the 3 objects, there is Chiron representing wounds and healing, Lilith (Black Moon) exposing your shadow and rebellious energy, and Lunar Nodes (North/South) illuminating your soul’s journey.

You need to think of planets as the energies of your life, the angles as the stages of those energies, and the locations on the map as the places that amplify or challenge those energies.

A Quick Way To Analyze Your Map

If you have already thought of using ChatGPT to get the answers from your free astrocartography map, you are a few steps ahead. Using an AI tool in this case is the easiest way to get some answers.

Take your map from Astro Seek and upload it to ChatGPT or your preferred AI tool. From there, you can ask whatever it is that you are curious about. You can come up with your own prompts or use the following ones:

“Analyze my astrocartography map and tell me:

  1. Which planetary lines are the most powerful for me and why?
  2. Which locations on this map can support me when it comes to [e.g., finding love, succeeding in my career, healing]?
  3. Are there any places where I could encounter some challenges, and what could those challenges be?”

If you already have a certain location in mind where you want to move or are curious about how your current location affects you, you can ask ChatGPT something along the lines of, “How does/would living in [city or country] affect me based on my astrocartography map?”

However, use your discernment, as AI tools can sometimes hallucinate and generate false information. I advise you to get familiar with your map and what the elements mentioned above represent so that you can better spot any inconsistencies that may be generated by AI tools.

My Relocation Journey

I was born and raised in Batumi, Georgia. When I was 18, I moved to Bulgaria to pursue my bachelor’s degree. I spent 4 years there, during which I participated in a Work and Travel program and therefore spent 4 months in the US. After I got my bachelor’s degree, I moved to Spain to pursue my MBA, and I have been here ever since.

After living in a few different places, I have come to realize that Spain is my “home away from home.” In the 2 years I have lived here, the circumstances haven’t been ideal, yet I’ve consistently felt a sense of peace and contentment.

When I learned about astrocartography and took a look at my map, I saw that my Sun and Jupiter IC lines pass near eastern Spain, where I have been living for the past 2 years. Places near your Sun IC can strengthen your sense of purpose and provide emotional security. Living near Jupiter IC may result in increased personal growth as well as exposure to people and possibilities for greater success. The combination of the two creates a balance between expansion and staying connected to your inner core.

Astrocartography didn’t lead me to discover Spain as my ideal location. I was already intuitively drawn to this country, and after living here and experiencing both outward expansion and inner grounding, I was glad to see that my astro map confirmed my intuition.

Final Thoughts

Don’t think of astrocartography as your definite answer when it comes to your relocation questions. Instead, use it as a tool to help you identify where you may feel most at home, based on your birth chart and your current stage of life.

Are you looking to find your soulmate, create meaningful friendships, or advance your career? Be clear about what it is that you want, as asking the right questions will lead you to gather great insight from your astrocartography map. After all, this map is based on your birth chart, and if you believe in astrology, you would know how powerful astrocartography can be, too.
